I connected with Shannon around a year ago on Instagram. I love her easy going style and her simplified approach. She makes you feel like you can create business systems to make your life easier. Like your more than capable…which makes sense since her podcast is titled “The More Than Capable Mompreneur.”

As a Business Systems Strategist, Shannon helps busy women with service-based businesses create systems to automate the time-consuming tasks required to run a business so they can work more efficiently and have more time for what matters most!

As a podcaster, Shannon hosts “The More Than Capable Mompreneur” podcast which has been listed in the top 200 in two categories on Apple Podcasts. In her episodes, she shares tips, strategies and conducts interviews to help busy women be more productive and use the mom cracks of time to get things done so they can find a balance that works for them without the mom guilt, can invest in themselves, and grow their business without burning out.

Shannon lives in Maryland with her husband and 17 year old daughter who homeschooled for high school and graduated this past March. Now she’s a college student! They are a very faith-focused family so their goals allow them to stay focused and be successful without interfering with that. She loves coffee and red wine blends as well as doing puzzles…which has become her new hobby. Shannon continues to have a part-time job and she’s building my business on the side.

1. What do you do in your business and why did you choose it?

I help busy women, especially mompreneurs, create systems to manage tasks to save them time and boost their productivity. This allows them to build their business on their own terms and spend time where it matters most.

I started my business as a virtual assistant while working full-time. After a few years though, being a VA was not the space I wanted to be in anymore. I had completed training to become an Online Business Manager but that didn’t light me up either. So I was at a crossroad, trying to decide if I should just close down my business and go back to work for someone else.

I took a summer off and just enjoyed time with my daughter and worked with just two clients on retainer. I also invested in private coaching with one of my mentors which helped me identify my mission, vision and purpose. That was October 2018 and after continuing to work with this coach I decided to take a major step in February 2019…I burned the boat and ended all of my contracts and went back to work part-time to reduce the financial pressure we had started to feel.

It took a lot of self-investment and mindset work for me to get comfortable with making the pivot from being a virtual assistant to being a business operations strategist. Not to mention, it took a lot of faith to admit to myself that I needed to make the change. Once I realized my true passion was putting things in order for a specific outcome I was able to move forward. This allows me to control where I use my energy to get the best results and I enjoy helping others do the same. That’s why I love processes and integrating technology.

2. What is your greatest strength when it comes to running your business? 

My business is structured to support my family and not take me away from them. So it has boundaries and I do all I can to keep it that way.

3. What is the area of entrepreneurship where you could grow the most? 

I’m getting more comfortable asking for the sale. But this has always been a struggle for me. Letting go of that fear is the only way my business will grow.

4. If you were to start your business over today, what piece of advice or lesson learned would you emphasize to yourself? 

Be confident in my expertise and don’t negotiate my prices.

5. What is your best advice for balancing business and home life or creating intentional family time? 

Decide what is important and make your plans with that in mind. There is no such thing as work-life balance. It comes down to what is the priority at the moment which changes and arranging your affairs accordingly.
